Do you think they dislike Americans?

I have been living in England for about 6 months. When we go out to local villages and attractions I get this feeling that we are disliked by locals. We are not rude, & would never let the children misbehave in public, so I don't think that's it. I have had people tell me that the Brits just don't like Americans. Do you think that is true?
